Sahuarita Middle School - Essay Contest Winners

On Friday January 13, 2012 the Green Valley Elks Lodge #2592 Drug Awareness Chairman, Jack Ponzo, and Arturo Gabaldón, E.R. awarded Drug Awareness Essay winners with 1st and 2nd place medals. Also, the first place winners received a Drug Awareness Basketball. These awards took place at Sahuarita Middle School. There were 4 first place winners and 4 second place winners from grades 6th to 8th. All first place winners essays will be entered into the Arizona State Elks Association Drug Awareness Essay competition. These awards were given at the SMS assembly where approximately 800 students plus all teachers attended this assembly. One hundred students entered essays for this Drug Awareness Competition Theme of "I Choose Not To Use". The Elk members who judged these essays had a hard time choosing the winners this year.

The first place winners were as follows:
6th grade - Shaelee Bauer
7th grade - Alyssa Maher
8th grade - Ryan Schwarz and Hannah Acuna
The second place winners were as follows:
6th grade - Kaela Hancock
7th grade - Maria Roiz
8th grade - Addie Wolfleyli
8th grade - Carlos Valdez
