Finally, the Annual Golf League Tournament was held at Canoa Hill Golf Course on April 5, 2010 after inclement weather cancelled the original tournament date in March.   Fifty-eight members participated in this individual low-net, four flight event, which was greeted by a windy morning for golf.  It did not hold back some great scores that were turned in by the players.

• Flight “A” winner - Bob Tollefson with a great score of 67 net winning $100 for first place;  followed by a tie for second place with a net score of 71 by Carl Dakin and Loren Pocock, each receiving a prize of $ 50.

• Flight “B” winner - Gary Andersen with a net score of 66 giving him first place worth $100, next in second place and prize of $ 60 was Tom Rogers with a net score of 68 and in third place was Mayme Specht with a net score of 72 and taking home $40.

• Flight “C” winner - Bill Stair (coming out of retirement) taking home $ 100 with a net score of 70, with Sonny Thomas coming in second with a net score of 71 for $ 60 and with a third place tie was Marv Christmann and Bob Campbell with a net 72 for $ 20 each.

• Flight “D” winner - Bob Graham with a net score of 66 and this was worth $ 100, second place was nailed down by John Pyburn with a net score of 68 worth $60 and then a three way tie for third place with Bill Trefethen, Roger Wilson and Jim Wall with a net score of 69 and each received $ 13.

Our Low Gross winner was Bob Tollefson with a score of 80 and enjoying a gift certificate for dinner at the Elks worth $ 40,

Our Low Net winner was Gary Andersen (tied, won on a blind draw) with a net score of 66 and he also received a gift certificate for $40 for an evening dinner at the Elks.

In addition, gift certificates were handed out to winners of door prizes to the area golf courses, who generously contributed to our successful event.

Thanks to all of these courses for making our tournament a success.

The Green Valley Elks 2592 - Golf Club League in the past has made some significant contributions to promote and help Junior Golf programs and to reward teen golfers.  This year your league has donated $200 to the Chili Pepper Tournament for the promotion of Junior Golf in Southern Arizona.  In addition, at our tournament luncheon we presented a check to Chris Fanning, Athletic Director and Golf Coach, for the Sahuarita High School Golf Program in the amount of $ 750 and to Greg Chesney, Director of Golf at Haven Golf Club, a check for the Green Valley Junior Golf Program in the amount of $ 500.  Also a contribution was sent to the Desert Hills Golf Club in the amount of $ 150 for the Kachina Program.  We do have an another commitment to the Kino Springs Country Club for their program to advance the Junior Golf in the greater Nogales area.

Again, thanks to all the participates, workers, volunteers and to Chef Fred and his crew to make this a very successful golf outing.  Let’s play some great golf the rest of the year and enjoy the courses we will be playing for the balance of the year.
